The Way
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea...Psalm 46:1, 2."
A business man is taking a trip by car, he brings with him a map of the area. He has confidence the map will show him the way he needs to go. A railroad conductor needs to bring his train in on time, he manipulates the speed of the train to ensure prompt arrival. He checks his pocket watch as he has confidence that it will give him the correct time. A police man goes out on patrol. Before doing so, he puts on his bullet proof vest. He has confidence that the vest will stop a knife attack if he's attacked.
Yet all of these things can fail, the map might be in error not showing new streets, the watch might be slow, and the vest might have a flaw in its workmanship that could cost the police officer his life. Such are the flaws of things man made. However, we that are Christians can go out into the world every day with confidence in he who is our refuge and strength.
Maps can fail, trains might be late, and things man made might not work no matter who has made them. But Jesus and the eternal promises in God's Word never fail, nor can they fail. Trust in God and remember the words in Proverbs 3:5, 6: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
